Technical books
Texereau J. , How To Make
A Telescope, William-Bell Inc, 1984
A reference book about telescope making. Also exists in French in major
astronomical club libraries. Few plans directly usable for an amateur with
few tools, but excellent advice and exhautive analysis of what not to do.
All steps from making the mirror to the drive of the telescope. Many pictures
of unusal telescopes.
Bourge P. , Mon télescope
et mon observatoire, pourquoi pas?, SAF
More affordable techniques than the previous book, excellent advice.
Some solutions to build a dome. A lot of pictures and plans.
Lyonnet du Moutier M. , Réalisez
vous-même votre télescope, Eyrolles, 1983
Good advice and a simple mechanical part, but too weak and not really
reliable. I would not recommend this technology.
Meeus J. , Calculs astronomiques
à l'usage des amateurs, SAF, 1986
A lot of useful calculation for those who want to masterise sky
mechanics for peculiar instruments. A good level in mathematics will help.
Guide de l'ingénieur,
92 semiconductors, Philips Semiconductors, 1992
Data handbook giving main characteristics of discrete electronic components
such as diods, transistors, packages...
Scientific books
Zirin H. , Astrophysics
of the Sun, Cambridge University Press, 1988
A reference book about the Sun. A good level in physics will help but
a great part can be understood without special knowledge. Many photos and
schemes perfectly illustrate the text.
Brunet, Mormone, Vaissière,
Le Pic du Midi d'un siècle à l'autre, Loubatières,
1998
History of the Observatory of the Pic du Midi. Wonderfully illustrated
with photos and magnificent period post cards
